Innovative Sustainable Agriculture
Rural Transformation:
Rural transformation is a multifaceted process of societal change where rural areas move away from traditional agriculture-based economies and diversify into manufacturing and service sectors. This involves shifts in population, livelihoods, and the way rural areas are used, often accompanied by increasing urbanization and cultural similarities to urban areas. The goal of rural transformation is to improve the socio-economic lives of rural people by increasing economic opportunities and reducing reliance on agriculture.
Training Programme: Pisciculture:
There are so many families staying at the poorest level of livelihood in spite of having resources of their own, but they are not conversant with utilizing ponds properly, which are the creative sources of income generation by fish farming, and earn excessive income by selling fish products. So, at the improved process of fish products and protection with the aid of fish, 50 households participated and became trained for their self-employment for sustainable livelihood.
Organic Farming:
Organic and sustainable farming has the potential to create new structures that actively work towards achieving women’s empowerment and protecting the use of indigenous knowledge. Our project aims to promote women farmers and capacitate them on various sustainable, efficient, and organic models of agriculture to increase farm production and ensure household-level food security through better income and livelihood opportunities throughout the year. To empower women and promote gender equality in the field of agriculture, we provide training to women from rural areas by motivating them to opt for organic farming.
We believe that training in organic methods appears to be a critical support to enabling women to take on leadership functions. As a result of receiving training, women have begun to utilise organic farming methods to grow crops with success. Along with theoretical input on indigenous seeds, we also do practical demonstrations of different natural fertilizers, natural pesticides, by creating more awareness about the current trends and opportunities for organic products in the market:-
- Preparation of different organic fertilisers.
- Application of organic fertilisers in the field.
- Maintaining the field organically.
- Procedure to maintain/handle the post-harvest product naturally.
Agriculture Training:
The entire area is a low-lying area. The nature of the soil is averse to paddy cultivation. Besides, superstitious farmers use old agricultural methods. These severely hampered the total production pattern and earnings from agriculture. To remove the problems and introduce scientific and improved methods of agriculture, the Humanitarian Reserch Foundation organized several agriculture improvement awareness cum training camps.
A total of 535 farmers participated in these programmes. Government department experts. NGO personnel and eminent resource persons cooperated with the programme. The farmers started using the modern method of agriculture after the training.
Creating Nutrition secure rural communities: bringing alternate livelihood opportunities and a bountiful platter to the community:
Creating nutrition-secure rural communities involves implementing programs that offer alternative livelihood opportunities and improve access to a diverse and nutritious diet. This can be achieved through initiatives like the Humanitarian Nutrition Garden (HNG), which supports vegetable farming for both family consumption and income generation, especially benefiting women and children. Diversifying income sources, promoting climate resilience in agriculture, and building sustainable food systems are key strategies for creating long-term nutrition security in rural areas.
